PURPOSE

Under direct supervision, the Maintenance Technician I is an entry-level position responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on diesel and gas-powered vehicles and equipment ranging from light-duty trucks and small forklifts to commercial trucks and heavy equipment. The technician performs these duties under the direction of the Shop Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on all equipment.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance to eliminate downtime.
  • Possesses the knowledge and experience required to perform Federal DOT inspections on commercial vehicles.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other common parts of commercial vehicles.
  • Use diagnostic tools to identify electrical issues and repair faulty components. (Mid-level diagnostic ability)
  • Keep an accurate record of all work performed.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform repairs using shop equipment such as welders and plasma cutters.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and ability required.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 1 - 2 years of related experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA policies and procedures.
  • Tools required to diagnose faults and perform repairs.

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Ability to communicate in Spanish at an intermediate level.
  • CDL license
  • Knowledge in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic circuits.

  • Reasoning Ability-The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. The ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic computer skills.

  • Must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock.
  • Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
